It’s March already? It’s March already! I almost never say this, but this winter has gone by so quickly! (Maybe this is the first time I’ve ever said that. I have the 70 degree February day to thank.)
Life has been busy. I’ve spent a lot of time at work, the gym, and with my family and friends. This is what 2017 has been like so far:
Turns out early morning workouts are theeeeee best, especially on Mondays and when you want to take mirror gym selfies. I normally work out after work but it’s super refreshing to avoid the after work rush sometimes.
I joined an eight-week fitness challenge that will end next week. I. LOVED. IT! I only lost a few pounds, but my goal was to learn new ways to exercise and eat healthy and both of those goals were accomplished so I’m happy about it. I’ve had to track all my food (#OverIt), so I’m excited for that to be over soon. I hope to share more about the program’s diet.
Right before this picture we went to a craft fair and ate tacos. That, my friends, is the good life.
My friend Victoria visited me in January, and I visited her in February! She’s one of my best friends from college, and I’ve only seen her a total of four times after college.
I got to visit with my friend Allison one more time before her baby comes! I’m so thankful for the ease of conversation, hilarious memories and for the way she listens and cares so well.
This squad was established in the ’90s. #SJpartyof4
I am humbled and blessed by many of my friends, old and new. I’m excited for more good times with the people I love.
Today is my three year blogiversary with WordPress! My little blog was called “This Is My Year” at the time. I have to admit that 2013 was one kickin’ year, which included a trip to Italy, my 21st birthday (but that’s another story), living in two amazing housing situations; special weddings AND graduation from college.
Pre-story! I actually had a cutie-little blog, All About Cteve, which was launched my sophomore year of college; I ended that blog mainly because I ran out of free photo space on that page (I’m Dutch, need I say more?!).
I didn’t want to be vain, though, and knowing I was coming off of an amazing high which was college, I figured it would be a bit unrealistic to call 2014 “[This Is] My Year,” too, so I went with the general “sideshow” and have decided to stick with that name, for the time being at least.
When I fell in love with Gym (see what I did there?), I cut back on the #bloglyfe BIG TIME. But I missed blogging, and I still enjoy blogging, and I’m not ready to give up blogging. That being said, my posts are indeed fewer and farther between, but I also don’t intend for them to stop anytime soon. How’s that for vague?
So I will continue with my little life blog. Stay tuned for whatever I want to share, whether it’s health tips or silly stories and fashion or songs or some new gig I may get into some day.
Since this is a sentimental post already, here was my 2015 best nine (left to right and then top to bottom) Meeting Love & Theft | Becoming an Auntie | Time with my family | Time with my TRIO | Florida vacation | Visits from Brittany | Quality cousin time | Having a group of “local friends” | Summer memories including Allison’s visit and baseball games.
I have so many fond memories of growing up among my seven cousins. Due in part to our shared lake home in Northern Wisconsin, we created bonds and shared many good times. I was the youngest, which meant I had a slew of role models, play mates and even chauffeurs by age six!
Maybe what’s even more special is the closeness we still share today. I hear from many of my cousins on a regular basis. We have gone to each other for advice, taken trips together, and even stood up in each others’ weddings.
Kasey is the second-to-youngest cousin. The two of us spent last Saturday together. Oh how I so loved our one-on-one time together!
Our time together wasn’t technically one-on-one though, as the Little Baby she is carrying was so evidently with us as well!
Here’s to the beautiful fall leaves, semi-sketchy alleys (but who were those weird guys who walked by?) and quality time with my dear cousin.
Kara and I visited Katie in Washington, D.C. last weekend. We had an amazing time! The vacation’s goal was to spend quality time together, and we definitely nailed it.
Our trip officially began when Kara and I arrived at our airport. We had pizza for lunch and we each bought a book to read during our flight.
Kara and I each bought books that were perfect for us! I’m loving #GIRLBOSS so far and Kara said Yes Please is great, too!
We had a good laugh when the woman who sold us our books asked us, “Why are you buying books? Aren’t you going to talk to each other?” We laughed and said, “We’re gonna be spending a LOT of time together over the next few days.”
Anna’s wedding was the first one I attended this summer. Anna married her high-school sweetheart Ben in May.
The wedding was elegant and sweet, like Anna herself. The care-free but wonderful Anna made for a lovely bride. I loved seeing all her classy and cutesey details come together.
Anna and Ben’s wedding had some very special elements. Anna wore a THIRD GENERATION wedding dress! They displayed pictures of Anna’s grandmother and her mom wearing the gown.
One other special factor: the reception was held in my parents’ backyard. This seemed right as my family grew up with Anna’s.
I loved celebrating the marriage of Anna and Ben, and spending time with home town people I’ve loved for a very long time.
I love shopping with my friend Kara. One time when we were at H&M we bought “Epic Weekend” shirts. I’m so glad I wore such “Epic Weekend” shirt this weekend because it was, well, epic.
I got to catch up with hometown friends at my friend Anna’s wedding. [The ceremony was beautiful AND we got to dance to great songs like “Uptown Funk” and “Shake It Off”]
I went to my first outdoor concert of the season. [BELLA CAIN IN THE RAIN but also in a very large tent…so we were high and dry, and they sang Big Red Wagon!]
I discovered a new boutique shop. [And justified buying a new dress because it was HOT and I was wearing jeans.]
I got iced coffee with my friend Ellie and we got to sit outside. [LOVE that girl.]
My BFF Katie got engaged. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).[Stay tuned for more pictures and happiness to follow!]
Megan and I are working on taking more pictures together. As cute as I FELT that night, I can’t say I’m very content with the picture!
What did y’all do this weekend?
I have been blessed with an amazing family. As I grow older, though, I realize that my family consists of more people than just the ones I’m related to.
I have two “bonus sisters,” Kara and Katie. We’ve grown up together. I don’t remember meeting them; like family, they have literally always been there. I could easily find old photos of them (it gets better: Katie’s family has all the video footage!).
In the recent past, when hashtags became a thing, we became the #DutchTrio. I love all of our outings, whether we’re on a road trip or within walking distance from my apartment.
On this particular day the #dutchtrio had our first Bloody Mary’s. Kara doesn’t even like tomato juice in the first place and Katie and I thought the ones we ordered were simply too spicy. On the bright side, we loved the “snacks” that came attached to the drink! #pickles #cheese #sausage #LOL (photo cred, as always, goes to Katie’s BF Sean)
